Hey guys, yes from an interview at GameTrailer.com with Takeshi Horinouchi, it looks like Rockman exe: Operate Shooting Star is a remake of the very first Battle Network game:

A remake of Megaman Battle Network which I’ve been working on.PLUS it was mentioned that some more Mega Man games are in the works:
ANY SECRETS OR PREVIEWS YOU CAN SHARE ABOUT WHAT WE CAN EXPECT FROM THE MEGA MAN SERIES IN THE FUTURE?
We are already moving ahead with several new plans not limited to a specific target or hardware, and are working hard to be able to tell you more about it. Please stay tuned!Now don’t let your hopes die…I’m sure it’s not “just” a remake from 2-D to 3-D Star Force-like graphics…let’s give it some more time before we jump to conclusions.

…..dude I still think it’s also a cross-over other wise it wouldn’t have the “shooting star” part maybe it’s a remake w/ extra story elements and new bosses and things related to ryusei no rockman stuffed into it making it into a new game that’s half remake half cross-over

Plus takeshi said several plans and he has been working on the remake and never said it was rockman.exe: operate shooting star

Well it turns out one of my ideas were correct: the news states that it is a remake with ryuusei story/gameplay elements!
Hurray rockman.EXE is back!
